What You Should Know Before Taking Quickbooks Training

QuickBooks is one of the most used and requested forms of accounting software. Many businesses, freelancers, and tax services use QuickBooks in some form. In fact, if you are a freelance bookkeeper, you may notice that most of the jobs available to you require the use of QuickBooks. This may lead you to sign up for QuickBooks training or a full training program. Before you sign up, there are a few things you should know.

Basic Accounting Principles

QuickBooks will do many actions for you in the software. However, if you do not have basic bookkeeping and accounting principles in your background, then you will not be able to navigate the software as easily. You may also have issues with finding problems with balancing the books, mishandled and posted funds, or mistitled funds. For example, if you do not understand accounts payable and accounts receivable, then you may have issues finding a bookkeeping error that is keeping the books from balancing. A training course will help you understand these things.

Basic Computer Skills

You will need basic computer skills in order to navigate the QuickBooks software and to keep up in a  training program. You will need to know how to access files on your computer, how to set up new files, and how to navigate a streamed program. You may also need to know how to set up new accounts, access your email, and how to communicate in a chat setting. These are all aspects of online programs and training modules regardless of the subject. For QuickBooks however, it is even more vital to have basic computer knowledge because of the key cuts and shortcuts that are available within the software.

Manufactured Year

You may not think that the year the software was manufactured is important. However, it can be vital to your training program. For example, you may find that the new software is out and available on the market. This does not mean that your clients are using that particular year. Though having training for the current year is preferred, you should also look for any training differences that may be in previous years or that may deal specifically with the year of the software used by the majority of your clients.

These are just a few of the things you should know before you sign up for a QuickBooks training program. If you are in the process of signing up for a  program, be sure to ask the necessary questions to ensure you were in the right training program for your needs. Keep in mind, you also want to obtain a certificate at the end of the course to prove that you have taken the course and are certified to use the software. This is vital with many clients you will have.
